Vision & Mission

The St. John Service Project was created to support the functional capacity of the Joe Roland Community Center to provide critical resources that have been largely inaccessible to our rural community.

Our objective is to prioritize strategies that advance health equity to impact the success and sustainability of the JRCC and improve the health of the rural community we serve. We acknowledge the systematic challenges that rural residents face and focus our efforts toward community engagement that promotes health in ways that are palatable, attainable, and culturally competent.

Key Initiatives

Community Engagement & Leadership

We are committed to engaging and empowering residents, building community leadership capacity, and helping to facilitate the nonprofit’s organizational capacity building.

Health & Nutrition Resources

In addition to providing healthy foods through our food pantry, the JRCC now offers

Nutritional education programs
Meal preparation demonstrations
Health resources and information
Youth Development

We're expanding our youth services to include:

Youth advocacy programs
Mentorship opportunities
Tutorial services
Recreational activities

Service & Skill Development

We are shifting to a service and skill development model that utilizes community resources to support the development of service experience and skills that will translate into workforce and life preparedness. This model allows us to:

– Highlight the commendable efforts of our community

– Generate support and funding that is more reflective of earnings than charity

– Provide valuable experience for youth and adult volunteers

Community Calendar

We’re implementing an active and diverse Community Calendar to increase offerings for community engagement. Check our Events page to see upcoming activities.

Goals & Needs

Currently, the JRCC does not have the funding, staff, or programming necessary to open on a regular basis. The Center also needs repairs to be fully functional.

We are seeking funding to:

– Cover operational costs

– Complete necessary repairs

– Partially compensate staff from the community

– Demonstrate the potential and benefit of providing employment through the Center

By supporting self-sufficiency of those dedicated to service, we aim to create a sustainable model that serves both the community center and the community members it employs.
